Life Cycle of a Fire Extinguisher

Annually:
Inspected and certified by a state licensed specialist. It will be tagged with the calendar month and year of the inspection. The inspection is valid until the last day of that month the following year.

6 years from date manufactured:
Breakdown, inspection, service, recharge, and certification.

12 years from date manufactured or recertification date:
Breakdown, inspect, service, recharge, and certify. Plus have the cylinder hydrostatic tested.

Typically this cost makes buying a new fire extinguisher more economical. However, an authorized fire extinguisher can continue another 12 year cycle after this process. This process “resets the clock” on the extinguisher until the next 12 year recertification and then it can do it all again.
